Being pregnant after a preemie and a miscarriage is sure a different experience. I've been excited from the start but scared to get to attached. Everything has been different this time. The nausea lasted for 17 weeks instead of being gone by week 10 like with Emerson. The fatigue lasted much longer as well and I'm still battling the nasty heartburn. I'm not going to lie, those months were rough trying to find the energy to care for E when all I wanted to do was lie in bed. Having the stomach flu on top of things over Thanksgiving sure didn't help :)
Thankfully in the last few weeks I've finally started feeling better! I was able to take off my stylish SeaBands and make it through the day without throwing up at about 17.5 weeks. Everything has been going pretty well with this pregnancy. We had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and all looked great. Had a little scare at 13 weeks when we couldn't hear the heartbeat with the doppler (after having heard it at 9 weeks) but another quick ultrasound revealed that baby was alive and well, just moving too much to pick it up.
I did end up getting gestational diabetes much earlier this time and failed my 3-hour test at 13 weeks. I had it with Emerson but not until 24 weeks. I now test my blood sugar four times a day and for the most part I've been able to control it with diet so far. Not sure for how much longer though because my dinner numbers have been creeping up regardless of what I eat. I take my blood pressure at home at least once a day and those have been good as well. My bp was borderline high in the first trimester and is now low in the second trimester so far just like it was last pregnancy. I'm getting frequent labs drawn and we're comparing them to pre-pregnancy levels. The first trimester labs all came back good. My 24 hour protein was 90 as opposed to 0 before pregnancy. When I was hospitalized with Emerson it was around 1500.
I was given a 40-60% chance of getting pre-eclampsia again and slightly less than than for HELLP syndrome. The risks increased a bit after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes but we are still hoping to make it as close to 37 weeks as possible!
The anatomy scan is on Monday January 10th at 1:30pm. I cannot wait to see that baby is healthy and growing well! Of course as an added bonus we will likely find out the gender as well. I'm thinking girl just because I've felt so different this pregnancy but who knows. I felt that Emerson was a boy and he clearly turned out to be :)
Here's the first glimpse of the little girl/guy, taken back at 11 weeks. Baby has been moving like mad lately, I think it's practicing the moves to Thriller or maybe following after dad and doing an Irish jig...
